NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: July 19-20, 2014

Slightly below average temperatures, sun and mostly good water conditions on the menu for this weekend. Both days will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will be in the upper 70’s to low 80’s with overnight lows in the upper 50’s across the north and low 60’s to low 70’s. Humidity will be lower to moderate and mostly comfortable. Winds will be light. Water conditions are rated good inshore, however winds could be gusty at times around 20 knots and seas will be 3-4 feet inshore. Midshore to offshore are good on Saturday and Cautious on Sunday with winds increasing around 20 knots and seas to 5 feet. Surf and beach conditions will be good, however gusty winds are likely and surf will be slightly rougher and higher with wave heights 2-4 feet with a 3 foot swell. Rip Current Risk will be Low to Moderate. Water temperatures are steady and have recovered to normal. Rivers and bays are in the low to upper 70’s. Surf temperatures are in the low to mid 60’s. Ocean waters are in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High.

A high pressure system over Western Pennsylvania will move slowly northeast passing over the area later on Friday and then through New England over the weekend. A low pressure system should form off the southeast coast and move well east of the NJ Coast on Sunday Night. The high pressure system will then reestablish itself over the region early next week. A cold front will approach the Eastern Great Lakes on Wednesday and start moving through the Mid-Atlantic States on Thursday.

Next week starts off dry and looks to remain dry through mid to late week. Temperatures will start in the upper 70’s to low 80’s and increase throughout the week making in back into the 90’s by the end of the week. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50’s and 60’s increasing to 60’s and 70’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look good with a southerly flow returning late in the week.

There is a tropical storm in the Central Pacific near Hawaii.
