My brother was in town from NC and we were supposed to fish together on 8/3 while his wife visited her very ill father. It turns out the he passed away while she was here so, he had to be with her. Since I already had a crew completed we watched the weather and took a chance. With the forecast of tight 3's and NE blow I wasn't very confident that we'd get out.

Hit the boat at false light and headed out in the rain and NE wind. Got to the inlet and decided it was good enough to at least get to the SRR and try to troll the pots to the N and S. It was a slow, long, pounding ride but, we made it. Trolled and trolled without a sniff.

Around noon I decided it laid down just enough to push south a bit and offshore. We only had another hour or two of fishing due to other plans but, we made the run. Got to the area, pretty much devoid of life with the exception of a few tuna chicks. Got the third of four setups in and the way back ballyhoo (actually mackerel pike from the Asian market) on a Joe Schutes gets nailed. It's game on! The braid on the Okuma 602 (why would a fish touch any of the 3 internationals?) starts screaming off. I am able to put the breaks on the fish while the two Mikes (my nephew and a friend) man the gaff and the controls. A short fight later we leader the fish, one gaff attempt and it's tuna in da boat.

We trolled for another hour without a taker and back to the dock. The BFT weighed 54# and taped 44". It was a much nicer ride home with the following seas. The boat did well and we had no problems.

Awesome Fred. You really earned this trip and catch after all your perseverance with the boat issues this year.
