A very mixed and unsettled week with chances of showers and/or thunderstorms all week and borderline water conditions. The remainder of Monday looks dry. Tuesday through Friday will bring chances of showers and/or thunderstorms for the rest of the week. Storms will be isolated to scattered with varying chances throughout the week. Some storms could be strong to severe midweek with over an inch of accumulating rain possible. Highs will continue in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s with overnight lows in the 50’s to 70’s. Humidity will be moderate to high and seasonable for this time of the year. Water conditions will be mixed as well this week. Monday will be good, however winds will shift to the East tonight and seas will continue around 2-3 feet. Tuesday will see borderline conditions with gusty winds from low pressure/pressure gradient moving offshore. As the onshore flow continues Wednesday and Thursday could see borderline conditions again, especially across southern waters. Friday looks borderline to cautious at this point, as conditions deteriorate into the weekend. Any thunderstorms, of course, could cause higher winds and seas in affected areas. This is a week to check all forecasts daily and determine the feasibility of water conditions first hand. Surf and beach conditions will be good to OK, with some gustier winds on Tuesday and rougher and higher surf on Tuesday into Wednesday. Wave heights should remain averaging 1-3 feet with some 2-4 foot waves mixed in, due to easterly winds. The dominant onshore flow pattern this week, could make rougher and higher surf at times, especially with gustier winds.  Rip Current Risk will be Low to Moderate. Thunderstorms moving in or popping-up are possible as well. Water temperatures are a few degrees cooler with waters in the upper 60’s to low 70’s now; only southern waters are seeing temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s. UV Index will vary from Moderate to Very High.

A frontal boundary will stall over Virginia on Monday. A wave of low pressure will track eastward along the stalled boundary Monday Night before moving offshore on Tuesday.  The frontal boundary should remain nearly stationary from the Great Lakes to the Southern Mid-Atlantic States Wednesday and Thursday, while a series of disturbances move along it. The front will gradually shift farther south and west of the area Friday and into this weekend as high pressure wedges down from Eastern Canada.

There is an invest area in the Eastern Atlantic that is being watched. As has been the case all season, the Eastern Pacific has two active storms.

The weekend looks dry with highs in the 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 50’s and 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look borderline to cautious with gusty winds exceeding 20 knots and seas 3-5 feet inshore and 4-6 feet offshore.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: Potential Severe Weather for Thursday
« Reply #6 on: August 21, 2014, 04:00:20 PM »
There is a generalized risk of strong to severe weather this afternoon/evening and into the overnight. Storms capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, hail and a marginal threat of supercells capable of producing tornadoes is possible. Storms are already firing in Central PA with Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings. A Watch will NOT likely be issued due to the isolated threat as opposed to a more widespread threat, however this does not mean that severe weather is NOT possible.

Be alert to changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving alerts from the NWS.

Be safe!
