Doris Mae
« on: September 29, 2014, 07:33:29 PM »
The end of this industry has started.  Its confirmed that the Doris Mae out of Barnegat Light, NJ has been sold and the business is shutting down.

This is a very sad day for the Eble family and for the party boat industry as a whole.  If the Doris Mae is shutting down, who is next?

I feel so bad for the Eble family and for the party boat industry.

Remember, its called "Change you can beleive in"

Yes, Jeff Gutman bought the Doris Mae.  That is not the issue.  A big time business in the party boat industry is shutting down.  That is the issue.

The regulations are hurting many.   Hopefully in the long run it all works out.

do you know for sure why he is shutting down? If it has to do with him being at the end of his business career and not wanting to run the business anymore that is far different than shutting down because the industry has forced him tog

There are no bluefish in the Barnegat Ridge in the summer.  He has not done his nite bluefishing for the last two seasons.  The Miss Barnegat Light fished for fluke this year until September 7.  They are bluefishing now.  The problem is there isn't a lot of fish around.  In the Long Beach Island Surf Tournament for the last two years there have not been any bluefish weighed in for the tounament.

The Doris Mae stated its government, pollution and lack of fish that ended his business.  He will sail for the remainder of his Tuna schedule and that is it. Not sure if he will do offshore sea bass or just turn the boat over to Jeff.

Right now on Long Beach Island, the Doris Mae is tuna.  The Miss Barnegat Light is weekends only.  The Carolyn Ann is not sailing until October 18 for the sea bass opener.  They will try to sail daily.   If the sea bass are not close to home they will do weekends only.

This is what is going on in this industry.  Its truly sad.

Don't forget the commercial fishery.  Every year we (recreational fisherman) throw back tons of fish just under the size limit.  Those fish are taken by the commercial boats.  We never see them "grow up".

Pictures of Doris Mae wearing the new name. It's going to be weird in Barnegat Light not seeing her any more.
