GGGRRREEEAAATTT DAY FOR STRIPERS
« on: November 11, 2007, 04:28:10 PM »
What I thought was going to be a day doing chores for the little women turned out great.

Had a charter booked for today, as I normally do I called the client last night to confirm that everything is a go with the weather, etc. Left a voice mail for him that things were a go and would meet them at the dock at 0630.

A short time later received a call from the client, Oh Hi Capt, I meant to call you the weather does not look good and we want to cancel.....weather, what weather I asked...forcast is good and fishing is heating up......well Capt we want to cancel. Unfortunately I was a nice guy and did not take a deposit, I bite my tongue and politely told him do not bother calling me again, unless he wants to sent me the deposit he owed me.

So, I went down to the boat this morning to make sure the ol girl was OK and to straighten out a few things. As I was on the boat a voice from the dock say, Hey Capt. can you take us out today?

I looked over on the dock and two gentlemen and a young boy were standing there. Climbed off the boat and greated them. They thought I was a small party boat and wanted to get in. Explained I was a private charter and what the trips consisted of.

The father of the boy looked a little sad, I asked what the problem was and he explained that it was his weekend with his son, who really wanted to go fishing and that he couldn't afford a charter. It was past 7:30 and I knew all the head boats were gone, I looked over at the boy who was staring at the boat.

Told the Dad I would take them out for the regular Party Boat fare, I couldn't shatter the boys day with dad. Loaded everybody on the boat and away we went.

Just about everywhere we hit, birds were working on fish, mostly Bass, but sometimes Blues were mixed in.

Fred Sr, Fred Jr and Chuck had the time of there lives jigging, working plugs and poppers. Everybody got their limt plus a bonus fish, must have released over  30 other bass both shorts and legal fish as well as a few Blues t 8 lbs.. All fish kept were between 30-36". Fred Jr was in heaven.

After we got back to the dock and the fish were cleaned, Fred Sr, shook my hand and gave me a large bear hug, he said you don't know what this meant to me.

Needless to say I was filled with a warmth on a day that was brisk, I was speechless. Good byes were said and Fred Jr. walked dwn the dock with his 36" bass that he wouldn't let be clean until his friends saw it.

This made my season.

WoW Captain Bob!!! Hats off to you for sure.
That was one of the best memories that father and son could ever share, that will be with them for the rest of there lives, and it was all because of the kindness in your heart. Priceless!!! Some times being a nice guy does pay. The father and son were blessed to have that jerk cancel, and what a loss for that clown. You are a great person, this world needs a few more like you.

Capt. Mike

I commend you Capt Bob, by the way e-mail the name of your deadbeats, just in case they call me I will tell them to take a hike, just kidding (maybe?). You made that family's day, this will come back to you in more ways than you will imagine. Capt Fred.

Captain Bob--OUTSTANDING job !!!. You made a memory for that young boy (as well as his father) that will last for a life time and beyond.

The fish gods will almost certainly repay you with good karma at some point in the future.

Also have to give a shout out to my brother from another mother....Hiya Capt. Freddy. Good seeing you on the water this past Friday.

I'm work as a counselor for troubled kids and I think it's safe to say, if more of my clients had experiences like the one you gave that child, my caseload would be much smaller.  That they caught fish makes it all the more sweeter!

You're a good man.

Hats off to you Capt. Bob. Having them go home with a decent catch of fish and those memories will last forever. I'm sure you'll hear from them again. The fish just make the day so much better though. TT^ grtn
