INSHORE TUNA!!! could not believe it!! dec .13
« on: December 13, 2007, 05:36:46 PM »
well guys belive me or not,but today, i took a day off from school to go fishing on my friends boat we started fishing up north to the rocks, nobody was out there at all, a few boats around the area, it was a little chop, nothing too bad. We started jigging bass and blues , no keepers of course. but it was a good day, i set my rod in the holder with snagged baby snapper i had snagged on the way up with my jig, so i stuck it on a live line rig, set it aside to grab something to eat, put the clicker on and about 5 mins later, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i neirly dropped dead when i got to my rod, now ive heard of some inshore bluefins being cought, but i aint that lucky, so i set the hook reeled in to be a 20lb. blue fin, kept that! my friend and i cought at  4 of them total, god was with us that day im sure! I overheard a guy on the radio who had a run off but he didnt hook it he says it was 100+lbs. blue fin around, i do believe him! but it was a crazy day, and of course i didnt bring my camera, but  we have one of the craziest days to remember!!   does anyone know why these offshore pelagics move to inshore wrecks? the schools were moving awful fast, wonder wat they were doing?

Don't know why, I would think because of the huge amount of bait inshore now.

I have seen them the past several years.  Never could put a hook into one though.

Nice catch.   t^

Awesome. There have been reports of them for weeks and weeks now, with reports of 300+lbs at sea girt ref.

Last sat. I heard a guy saying they were all around his boat by the pink hotel...I was up by rockaway I think.   He didn't want to drop a line cause they were to big for his rigs....
nice catch. I'm going out saterday and will keep an eye out.

First off impressive catch but not to burst your bubble did your friend have a Highly Migratory Spieces (HMS) permit? I'm pretty sure it is required for all tuna, shark, swordfish and billfish fishing. Maybe someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, a permit is needed.  I spoke to Kevin in a PM about his day of fishing and his catch and they did have the permit.  t^
