Hey next year im thinking of a tuna trip with my dad and his friends can anyone tell me some tips on tuna fishing a some good boats?

Most of the good boats don't sail out of Belmar.
Not sure what Belmar has to do with Tuna.

The Bandit runs private Charter for tuna out of Belmar and The fishmonger runs trips also. Both sponsors of the site. If your looking for a small charter I'd give Capt Jerry a call on the fishmonger.  I'll be looking towards him also for my first Tuna

Many Belmar private boats hit the mud hole for tuna.  Short run from the inlet.  Twenty miles or so, depending on what part of the mud hole you want to fish.

If he is really looking for Tuna, Canyon is place to be.

Mudhole tuna is EXTREMELY hit or miss (and very few yellowfin, if any for a decade or more).

There are a LOT of good boats out of PP that hit the canyon for yellers.

FOR SMALLER groups 4-6 guys AND / OR DAY TROLLING/CHUNKING . i will be running with capt wayne THE FISH MONGER FOR CANYON TUNA.

NOT SURE ABOUT BELMAR AND TUNA AND NO GOOD BOATS IN BELMAR ? I REPECT YOUR OPINION BUT IT IS NO DEF REALLY. THE 4-5 MILE GAP BETWEEN BELMAR AND PT MEANS NOTHING WHEN GOING 80 - 100 MILES OUT.

IN BELMAR THE GOLDEN EAGLE, MISS BELMAR, SUZIE GIRL, HAVE ALL BEEN TUNA FISHING EVERY YEAR. 6 PACKS Include lastlady, nancyj, finominal, and double diamond.

In POINT PLEASANT both the gambler and sea devil are great boats. the benchmark canyonrunner and jennylee are GREAT smaller boats.

MANY smaller center console type charter boats also offer tuna if you like that. those boats lack some amenities but make it up in speed. a good weather window is needed. sporty charter  boats have more amenities but are slower. party /large charter boats get you there comfortably and have a larger weather window but take more people. so there are alot of OPTIONS     
   
boats from BELMAR to CAPE MAY all offer good tuna trips but dont figure on def time of who will get you there quicker. it all depends on what you want price amenities etc.

last year we rode down to the wilmington canyon
an extra 1 1/2 hour drive and were rewarded with larger and more fish almost every time.

BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE IS STAY AWAY FROM PARTY BOATS WHO OVER CROWD THE BOAT LOOK FOR BOATS WITH SMALLER LIMITS EVEN IF IT IS A HIGHER FARE 20-40$ ITS WORTH IT.

Hey Mike like most anywhere there are good Capt"s and Not so good Capt's. I know of a couple in my marina that sail to the canyons regular and do well with Tuna, Swordfish, and Wahoo. I don't think it's the port they sail out of as much as a Captains experience and what the customer is willing to spend. If a group is willing to spend the big money for that 24 hr canyon trip and the one on one experience of a private charter, that's great. Some guys will spend that $125 to $150 bucks and make a reservation for a fall party boat Tuna trip. Just My Two Cents

My point was that there were more boats (generally) out of PP then Belmar, and to not limit one's self to Belmar looking for a tuna boat, that's all.

I am not from North jersey BTW. I was born and raised in Monmouth Cty.

Hey Mike, Skip is from PA.  To them, anything above Camden is North Jersey.

I wish I could find a party boat tuna trip for $150!  All the boats I know of charge around $300.  That's why i don't go tuna fishing!

Since we're talking tuna fishing...anyone want to get a 6 pack trip together for next September.

I know my son has been wanting to go for several years now and I've told him him not until he's 13..well guess what he's turning 13 next April.

I was thinking of booking a trip as my Bar-Mitzvah gift for him (his Bar-Mitzvah is this coming May 3rd). I was/am seriously considering going on the Canyon Runner (if I do decide to give him this as a gift)-as I feel they are one of the top if not the top boat in NJ for tuna fishing. But they don't come cheap.

Anyway, the Canyon Runner would be separate from what I'm asking about here.

Reason I'm asking about any interest now is because it gives people a long time to put a little $$ each month so it doesn't hurt so much.

Me personally, I'd rather do a 6 man tuna trip and spend alittle more than a party boat tuna trip and having to deal with 20+ guys.

Canyon Runner will cost you easily 750 per including tip.
MOst expensive there is by far.

Also pretty well booked too.

PB tuna does pretty much suck btw.
