IMHO, it doesn't matter if a Republican or a Democrat is in the White House--to me they're both the same in different clothing.

What this country urgently needs (again IMHO) is a strong 3rd party.

I also strongly agree with Mboy in his statement about the politics & politicians of NJ they can ALL go to hell as to a man (woman) they are a bunch of corrput, backstabbing, tax raising, line their own pockets SOBs.

Oh yea forgot to add that I have a very bad feeling that buy Memorial Day we'll be close if not at $4/gallon for roadside gas...can only imagine what dockside fuel will cost.

Speaking for myself, that would make a drastic change in how I fish. I definitely would not drive as far to get to a boat and would probably limit myself to just 1 day over the weekend to fish (of course I might just have to double up on the trips for that 1 day  )

Very true. It can never happen is our present system though. You need the backing and support of one of the partys to get anywhere.

It's unfortunate that if you want a stong military and small government you have to put up with corporate greed and religious fanatics but if you want fair trade and protection of the the middle class you have to put up with weak law enforcement and an semi-socialism.

I've become very interested in following politics the past few years and I get more scared every day...

 Tank up early!!! Once vacation season starts gas prices will climb. These prices are fabricated. We have had a very mild winter. Which usually results in lower home heating prices but not this year. I also believe that the price per barrel close to 100 is to put more money into Iraq hands. If I recall I think they pump 2 million barrels a day. At 30, alot of money at 100 ALOT more money.

Gas prices are simple economics. Supply and demand. When you have AlGore running around saying the sky is falling all because of my suv, then all the sheep run out and get econoboxes. The oil company will do what they do to stay in business, which is raise prices. On top of that, all the corn that goes toward ethanol, instead of my cereal, is raising the price of food. It cant be grown fast enough. Taxes and entitlements are whats killing us, not the products that I use and enjoy, like my suv.

Yeah, theres really nothing that can be done until the the first Tuesday in November, which depending on your job, may be a holiday. Polls open at 6 AM, and you have the rest of the day to fish.

Well, driving small cars uses less oil, therefore supplies theoretically should increase and demand decrease, leading to lower prices.  The rest I agree with.  Ethanol is less efficient and has no practical purpose but to make farmers in the middle of nowhere wealthy.  Not saying I'm against farmers, but if you have to invent new, pointless ways to use your product, perhaps your product's time has passed.  If we really wanted to use ethanol in terms of saving fossil fuels, we'd import it from Brazil.  But when Iowa apparently holds so much political power, that's not a popular move.

I doubt any of the candidates running have the power to reduce oil prices.  However, many of them have the power (and the desire) to raise taxes.  That's what I'll be considering in November.

In my overly simple mind, I see the oil companies making the same expected profit no matter how much they are selling. Hopefully, someone will let us drill for our own oil so were not so dependant on foreign oil.

There we agree 100%.  Obviously, if supplies to India and China were back down to the levels of 10 years ago, there would be a major difference, but prices are so inflated by speculation that a bubble of gigantic proportions has formed in the energy sector.  Whether it will burst or if it will continue is the next question.  There are cases to be made for both outcomes.  One will result in prices in the $1.50 range while the other will result in fuel being sold for $4.50 regularly.

Either way, we as a country should be focusing tons of resources on finding a viable alternative fuel for combustion engines.  There is no excuse not to be doing this right now.

Every time someone suggests an alternate form of energy the enviros boo-hoo.  They do not present an answer, just that they are against it, so typical of them.  Then the government sides with them because of all the $$$ they throw them.  bngh

Ethanol may not be the best or most eficient answer but it's renewable and the Iowa farmers won't fly any planes into buildings.

How come hillbillies in the 60s could figure out alternative fuels? Then Uncle Jessey and the Duke Boys were using it in the 80s. They could even stop on the side of the road and take a snort of it>
