Headed out on skeptical weather report....beautiful morning out of Sayreville with duck hunters getting ready for first sun up....going out with little intel except the few pics that a Captain must of ran out of white cloud paint
...really didnt want to head that far(would have trailed to Liberty State Park) so proceeded towards Great Kills where we were greeted with diving birds and only a couple boats on them....Joe had a quick hookup and Darrin a few followups to the boat with no commitment....schoolies but fun anyway....proceeded further towards Hoffmanns and saw smaller flock diving really agressive... these were bigger stripes smashing the surface...somehow we messed it up...couldnt seem to get a cast out when we needed it...we thought if we sat they would regroup but they were gone...lost opportunity for sure.....decided to head out towards the not so seacret spot because it was still calm at this point. Well I was unprepared for the bait of choice as everyone was eeling but did read of other posts(other site
) saying he was catching using mojos deap, so gave it a whirl for a few hours, did see a few hookups on eels and almost tried to re-rig some of the poles to try fake eels(do they work?) but decided to head in as the weather went to hell.....headed back in off the 11A and did manage a couple more schoolies on shads but that was it, rough day and the wind kicked butt this afternoon....some nice patches of bait in the bay so thinking any day now....not a great bay report...but its a report!
