Actually much much quicker that that when he's in actual rod building mode.

Although it looks like a fun party, I'm not sure I get the connection between custom rod building and this video.  Can you fill me in? 5hrug

Went out on a tangent from IrishAyes asking about my trip, my bad. chrz

I'll tell you, I've fished cheap factory rods and high end factory rods.  There is ZERO comparison to a good custom stick.
I even have a Lami factory rod and a custom built on the same blank...night and day between the two in action, feel, etc.

I just got am email from Tom McNamara the owner of the Mud Hole in Fla.  I emailed the company asking if the original owner Mike Trallee(?) was still the owner and if he remembered the old shop in Brick and Toms River.  I helped set up the one in Toms River.  Well he is not the owner any more but it seems like they might be interested in putting a location here in T.R. if things add up.  He wants me to call him if I can help him set this up.

Don't know if it will happen but it would be interesting having a good distributer in the area with decent pricing for rod building.

Happy Catching

Paul,

We used to have a "Mud Hole" tackle shop here in Forked River. I guess he left the area more than 10 or so years ago.  It was a small shop.  I don't remember the guy's name.  I didn't go in there all that much since I don't do the offshore thing.  But I would stop in and buy some lure making stuff once in a while.
The guy who owned was kind of tall with a mustache.  I see there is a Mudhole custom tackle website now.  I always wonder if that's the same guy.  Is the guy you're talking about the same guy I'm talking about?

Yep, same guy.  That was Mike.  From Forked River he moved to Fla. and I guess he sold the business after a while.

He used to make a mean offshore rod especially for those who like to shark fish.  There was a rep from Diawa who got all his rods made from Mike.  I remember his first name was Bob and for the life of me I can't remember his last.  But, yes sir-re that was a fun time.
