I have a friend looking for some use lead so he can melt down and make weights with.  Does anyone know where, when, how..... to get some.

Check you tire shops.  See if they will part with used wheel weights.  Not the cleanest lead to use, but it does work just fine.   TT^

he did and actually they don't have much.  He gets them there every year, but for some reason, everywhere he goes claim that businees is slow and don't have much on hand.  I just checked ebay and they are quite pricey.  I am going to buy lead and have him make me my desired size weights for this season.  Im still looking as we speak.

also check with plummers, as they sometimes run into old lead pipes,, definatly not the cleanest but lead is lead

best place to buy it now is at scrap yards ,they buy it and resell it . there was a guy selling 1500 lbs on nj fishing last week but he wanted a buck a lb .

If you are going to buy the lead, a buck a pound is pretty good. I work in the battery industry and the current market rate is up to a buck fifty eight. Right now there is a big demand for lead. It can be recycled and smelted until all the impurities are out and then reused. All this is keeping the prices up which will affect the overall prices of the batteries we buy.

wow, I thought that was alot ,I have about 100 lbs. I am holding on to .I put out some calls and most are right no one wants to part w/ it ,I have a friend that has over 1000 lbs and we wont sell any
