When fishing backfires...
« on: March 10, 2008, 10:45:46 PM »
Normally, I equate fishing with a relaxing and hopefully, exciting, day on the water.  Well, tonight my girlfriend and my Mom were talking about going out shopping together.  Mom then says something about me going, too.  Naturally, I was all too eager to pass on the opportunity and began saying something to that end.  Anyway, before I could get the words out of my mouth, girlfriend chimes in, "But, I went fishing with you 5 times last year!"

First, who knew she was counting?  I thought she liked being out on the water.  5hrug  Second, I did go to the mall with her yesterday to go look for some elusive brown blouse.  That's far more painful than any fishing trip could pretend to ever be.  Third, I'm shopping for something that will make her very, very, very happy.  She knows this.  Don't I get some points for that?  :-\

Gents, any advice would be much appreciated!  bngh  rofla  bngh  ???

Thanks, Paul, but something tells me that a family man like yourself is grinning somewhere on the inside...  >:D

Perhaps, the wisdom of one fishinfool would be helpful here?

This is all tongue in cheek, by the way.  While this did happen, I'm far too unhappy in other parts of my life to let this bug me.  She's a bright spot.  If she wants me to go, I'll go...probably.  But counting fishing trips?!!?  C'mon, now...  ;)

We have to get her out onto IBSP for an outing with my girls.  They can go off exploring and we can relax and fish.  I'll bring the grill and set up camp and to wrap things up a nice bon fire on the beach roasting marshmellows is always  a great way to end an evening.

I was only kidding.

Paul, that sounds like a terrific time and I thank you for the offer!

The ladies think for some reason that they are on " Lets make a deal ". If you cave into it you will be sorry. My X once told me she was the boss and you are going to do things my way!! I quit that day and never returned.

Anyway, before I could get the words out of my mouth, girlfriend chimes in, "But, I went fishing with you 5 times last year!"

First, who knew she was counting?

Mistake #1. ALWAYS assume they are keeping count.

Mistake #2. It's always better to put some coinage (AKA going to the mall) in the bank, so you can withdraw (going fishing) at a later date. If you're lucky, you might even get some interest back  ;D

Always try to keep the balance sheet in your favor. Meaning, do all the little things ie: going to the mall with her, sitting there with a smile while she tries on a gadzillion brown pairs of shoes, offering to take her some place, telling her how much you enjoy her going fishing with you (sometimes this is hard to say with a straight face), buying her something trivial but you know she likes it (magazine, Starbucks etc.). It all adds up my brother to keep your side of the ledger in the black.

Here is how an elderly couple explained their marriage longevity.  Not for the weak of heart...

A couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on the beaches in Montego Bay, Jamaica Their domestic tranquility had long been the talk of the town.

People would say, "What a peaceful & loving couple"

The local newspaper reporter was inquiring as to the secret of their long and happy marriage.

The Husband replied: "Well, it dates back to our honeymoon in America explained the man. We visited the Grand Canyon, in Arizona , and took a trip down to the bottom of the canyon, by horse. We hadn't gone too far when my wife's horse stumbled and she almost fell off.

My wife looked down at the horse and quietly said, "That's once."

"We proceeded a little further and her horse stumbled again. Again my wife quietly said, "That's twice."

We hadn't gone a half-mile when the horse stumbled for the third time my wife quietly removed a revolver from her purse and shot the horse dead.

I SHOUTED at her, "What's wrong with you, Woman! Why did you shoot the poor animal like that, are you *%&#@$crazy!?"

She looked at ME, and quietly said, "That's once."

And from that moment..... We have lived happily ever after."

That about sums it up. Living under threat of who know what.

This year will be 34 years and what a journey. I would not have missed it for anything.

Ash, just grab life as it is thrown at you and hold on my friend, you are in for the ride of your life.  Enjoy.
