Long Island Surf
« on: March 11, 2008, 01:36:18 PM »
Well, I took my first ride to the beach of the new year today.

I was the only one for as far as I could see.

Cold but beautiful.

Nothing doing anywhere as expected, it's a bit too early here.

Seagulls were all bundled up together in the parking lot, not even patrolling the water.

They're smarter than I am.

I new I was just killing time, but I wanted to get that suctiony feeling you get on your legs when you walk into the water with chest waders ;D

Tossed a White bucktail and teaser for about 40 minutes or so.

Ahh, very soon.

I'm probably gonna give one or two of my holdover spots on the North Shore of LI a shot over the weekend.

LIPA outflow and a couple of back bay areas that sometimes hols some schoolies over the winter.

Nice, it has been so long since I've been on the surf, I forgot about that suctiony feeling.  The water pressure squeezing the neoprenes together.   TT^

Good try, get em next time.   t^

I decided to take advantage of the absolute beautiful day today.

Grabbed my 8' Lami and headed over to one of my usual early season spots. It's actually a holdover spot.

It's a small creek that feeds into LI Sound.

Started at the mouth with some 4" Storm Wildeye Shads and a White Teaser.

Casted for a about 2 hours slowly making my way back up the creek.

Nothing.

Started heading back the other way and lo and behold I connected on a 14-16" rat.

Caught on a Panther Martin Vivif Minnow.

What a beautiful sight for sore eyes.

I did learn 2 lessons today.

1) When casting for over two hours and walking several miles for the first time of the year it is very tiresome.(My first time out this year was very brief so it didn't count)

2) ALWAYS, even if you don't think you have any chance at getting a anything, BRING YOUR DIGITAL.

ALl in all it was awesome out.

Hit the same spot today for an hour.

Nada.

No visible signs of anything.

Nippy out there today.

A stiff NW breeze in my face.

Please warm up soon.

OTH doesn't like the coldness anymore.
