First Rip just north of the Pocket at the north jetty on clams.

Or, in the back on the flats with sandworms worked real slow rigged California style.

Or, Bucktails off the jetty on an incoming tide.

I could go on but you get the idea.

Take your pick.

This time of the year you got to really work for them.

As soon as the water gets to 50. In rariton bay and sandy hook ocean side. Live lineing bunker, clams, and lots of jigs.  CAN'T WAIT SEE YOU OUT THERE

In the next couple of weeks we start seeing some fish in the back bay areas of LI Sound.

These are moistly holdovers.

I start with rubber shads and small bucktails.

And of course an OTHS Custom Teaser.

As the seaon starts to build by late April I'll start fishing more on the open beaches of the Sound with Sandworms or Clam.

I avoid this type of fishing until the season A) Opens. B) Some larger fish start moving into the area.

Don't want to risk a gut hook when there are only rats around or the seasons not open.

As the Bunker and othe baitfish arrive I'll then start with topwater plugs.

On the Ocean side of LI I'll start around May primarily with artificials.

I'll start drowning worms or clams on the Ratian Bay shore after a few days of nice weather get strung together.

In past years, my traditional start for Stripers was to take the boat up to the Tappan Zee area on the NJ trout opener.

I'll start by dunking clams in about 5-7' of water in the western end of Raritan Bay next Sunday.

This coming week I will be getting out and start to fish with ernest.

There is a lot to try this early in the season.  But the flats should be the key before they start moving up into the estuaries to spawn.

When should we begin jigging for spring stripers in the ocean?  I've heard that during the spring, we should used the "tubed" Avas.

I'll start next week fishing the upper delaware with bloods, until the herring arrive, then is livelining all the way, maybe some chunking herring :)reports of keeper fish with some juvies mixed in is the local reports here for the delaware
