VMC or Gamakatsu?
« on: March 28, 2008, 01:43:32 PM »
Hey guys and ladies.

I have been using Gamakatsu Octopus hooks for many years.

For pretty much all of my fishing.

Do any of you have any experience with VMC hooks?

What's your take?

Gamakatsu is the only one I use.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

My take is that all hooks are good as long as they allow me to catch fish.

VMC and Gamakatsu, are the top manufacturers in the market today.  VMC is by far the most used hook by the major manufacturers of lures as well.  I use the Gamies more only because they are easier to get locally.

The VMC's unusual treble hook design with the one longer hook seems to work well but as I do not like treble hooks because of the danger of getting hooked myself while de-hooking a fish.

Happy Catching

I have read quite few good reports on VMC.

And they are 1/4 the price.

I just received VMC's catalog and I am probably going to start selling their product and maybe even using them for my rigs as well as teasers.

I like the circle hooks for stripers but I usually buy new hooks every time I go out fishing so if you set it right any hook suits me pretty much

They are both quality hooks.  VMC may rust alittle faster but dont quote me on it.  I have always used gamakatsu just b/c they are more availible. TT^

I'll be adding an inventory of VMC to my website over the next several days.

VMC Red Octopus hooks are about 1/3 the price of Red Gammies.

I sell and have used both.  My experience has been that the Gamakatsu hooks are more consistent in overall quality per pack.

When you buy a pack of Gammies every hook in that package is as razor sharp as the next!  I have found quite a few VMC packages with at least one or two "questionable" hooks in them.

My 2 cents. ;D

Yes, Gamakatsu's quality control is about as good as it gets.

I use either Octopus or Wide Gap hooks for Fluke.

Don't like Matzuo.

Very brittle.
