Yep, you can EASILY add 4 more to the t-top.

That is the way to go, secure and off the deck so you don't have to deal with them.

I have a 3 rod holder on each side of my console (No T Top) and am thinking of adding another to the starboard side of the console if I have room. If no room for a 3, then maybe a 2 or at least a 1.

Nick, here is my usual shot from a different direction..but it would avoid the hole saw.. My boat has a factory installed rail that I installed my transom holders on.. I would think you would want to thru bolt it, but if you can access the underside to bolt, it would be less intrusive, and I liked the idea of a bit more adjustability..Just a thought... Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

that might be the way to go.  You know from beingin the boat, if I take 4 people fishing, the guys I take carry at least 4 rods each.  I will add to the Ttop

Nick,
I have four rod holders in almost the same spot you are thinking of putting yours.  Predrill some pilot holes and don't be shy with the 5400 to seal out the water.  Should be no problem.

Hey Nick I put this on the my Transom, I through bolted mine, went in through my battery compartment door. It is used so much I am thinking of changing it up to a bigger one, it also has places for pliers and a knife.  t^

I do prefer the plastic ones over the metal variety myself. Cheaper, and holds up better with no/less maintenance.

plastic is cheaper, and does the same job, metal looks nicer, but pricey

The plastic ones will deteriorate over time from the suns rays. They will get brittle and start breaking at the top after several years. I had a set on the splash well of my boat and they lasted about 7-8 years before I had to replace them. I did replace them with another set of plastics though. duh.  ;D

I was also thinking of putting the chrome ones on the side of my Ttop.  I have 4 on the back and can't fit anymore.  I want to see how they look on the side.  Then even have the one's that hinge down for easy access. Like I said, with the people I fish with, there is NEVER, EVER enough room for everything.

For the $7 I paid for each 3 rod pair, I can live with changing them out every 3 years :)

Yes, but can you live with a rod going over the side when it decides to break? Happened to a guy on my dock just last year.
He put his rod in the holder on his transom and lost it when the line got hung on the bottom and broke the several year old rod holder.

If you NEVER put your rod in the holder when you are fish, that of course would not be an issue.

Oh, mine are mounted to my center console on each side, not on the transom.

Yeah, transom I guess I would want something sturdier :)

The ones I have mounted on the transom are used for transporting not for dead sticking, I don't think Nick mentioned what he is going to use the rod holder he wants to mount for ???

Skip, I'm willing to bet that at one time or another either you or someone on your boat placed a rod in the transom holder because it was convenient when he went to grab a sandwich or use the head.  I know guys have done it on my boat just about every trip!
