hey bucktail where and what do u usually fish at the manasquan reservoir every time i seem to go i get nothing???
Yankeesfn08,
I haven't fished there very recently,
and I'm certainly not an expert on this lake, but I have had success in the shallows directly across from the boat ramp and in the NE corner. There is (or was) some decent cover to throw to there.
Although I love throwing spinnerbaits and rattletraps, most of the fish I've caught on the reservoir have been on finesse stuff. Gitzits are one of my favorites, along with Senkos (of course).
A friend of mine swears by the old Charlie Brewer sliders.
On the same side of the lake (but a little more west of there) are some flats that can be really good around the spawn. You can drag a carolina or splitshot rig with a Yamamoto Cut Tail and cover a decent amount of water there. You will usually see quite a few beds in that area that you can pitch a gitzit to or drop a Senko on. I have been told (by a very famous NJ fisherman
) that if you fish this same area (but slightly deeper) you can catch a ton of smallies! I would love to try that, since I love to catch smallmouth. But I haven't (up to now) ever caught one in the Manasquan Reservoir.
If I were to go
now I would probably head over by the dike over on the west side and throw a pointer or something similar near the concrete once the sun has had a chance to warm it up a bit.
Anyway, you can take all that for what it's worth. I'm sure there are others that fish this lake a lot and can tell you more than me. As I said, I'm certainly no expert on this lake, but these may be good starting points for you. One thing is for sure. Manasquan Reservoir definitely has it's fair share of good size bass.
