Flounder fishing today...
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:57:10 PM »
Got out with a few buddies today, we were right on the edge of the channel on the south side of the Manaloking bridge. We were there from around 9:30-12:30pm, not a bite.

I had two chum pots out and we were using sand worms.

Saw a few other boats, didn't seem like anyone was hooking up.

Water was 45degrees.

Fun day with a few good friends (no problem keeping the beers cold!), but no fish today....

Ross

as the weather gets warmer, even a skunk day is a good day.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

You ever try this hole? About 25 feet deep; about 100 yards in length, goes from 6 feet to 25 and sometimes holds the critters...

I made it out yesterday and it was chilly!  I showed the same water temp and wasn't sure how accurate it was.  Manage to pick up 2 - largest being 1.10 lbs.  (Right after Bossross left)  Nice day when the sun shined!

Are we going to have a Spring???

I have been up there checking out some spots I wrote about last year and doing up dates.

I noticed that the fish were off the bite during cloudy periods when the sun was totally covered by clouds and just as soon as the sun broke through the bite was on again.

This happened twice on Friday so it was not a fluke pardon the pun.  This happened just yesterday the same thing the sun was out and as soon as the clouds rolled in no bite.  30 minutes later the sun came out and the bite was on again.

Something to this?  Or just a quowinkidink... grtn

In Early Spring with the water temps being low, the sun definetely plays a part in getting the bite going.  Sun warms up the flats and shallows quickly causing the bait and fish to stir.

Once the water temps stabalize, it becomes less of a factor IMHO.

Thats so true Gottog,  to take this even further it was about 15 to 20 minutes after the sun came out for the bite to start.  This goes to the warming factor I ma sure.

Plus I am hearing that the Bass bight was on yesterday in the bay.  Bass were rolling, where? not sure if I had to make a guess I would say in the back of IBSP.  Try the flats I and sure you should do well.  Mostly shorts though, I can't wait to here todays reports.
