1st cod fishing trip... Any Tips???

hey guys, So I'm going on my first cod fishing trip with our fishing club that I have started up here at school... any tips for catching the big ones?????

ahh.  Wish I could help you there.   are you going out on a charter?  Note sure of the techniques used for them babies

Buy ready made codfish rigs, put clam chunks on each hook, enough lead to hold bottom and like the man said..."wait for the tug, pull and reel hard"

Some guys like to jig for them, but I have never fished that way for them.

Clams are the common bait... Use heavy leader b/c you will be fishing around structure... 10-24oz "cod Jigs" are often used, but obviously are rather unwieldy because of their size...  Use a nice stout hook and a long, prefferably graphite rod, braided line helps b/c of the relativly deep weater...
