Reel Time 4/19/08 First Trip of the Season
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:48:25 PM »
Met at the boat at 7:00am, Capt Johnny B and Jim. Put the life raft back up and still had a few other things to straighten out. Underway by 9:00 am shot for a wreck 25 miles out. Picked up 3 keeper sea bass and 1 27" cod "nice". Had a bunch of throw back sea bass, and black fish, few spiny dogs, and about 100 bergals, WOW pain in the ass. Moved around on the wreck for a few hours more throw backs then bite turned off. Water temp was 51 degrees. Decided to hit another wreck about 18 miles off, picked up a 21" ling "nice" 20" sea bass, and about 8 more keepers. Still a bunch of throw back sea bass, black fish, pain in the ass dogs, and probable another 100 or so bergals. Jim caught a nice piece of the wreck must of set the emergency break on his reel, overboard rod and reel. About 20 minutes later in 120' foot of water Capt. Johnny B reels up with line wrapped around his rig so we start handling, up comes Jim’s rod and reel with of course a bergal on his hook. All in all great day out, a lot of action some quality fish for the box, and got to run the boat out for the start of the season.

Hey Bucktail,

Would have been a great day to try those jigs.

The bite was tough, fish were their but you had to hit theme in the head to get them to bite.

Hey Mike, I would love to hit some sea bass in the head with a jig!  ;) Hopefully we'll get out to try them one of these days.  That is, if I ever get a day off!  bngh
On my way to work again now.  Looks like it's going to be another beautiful day for fishing! ;D

Good Job on the fish and recovering the rig.
A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!
