Manasquan Inlet 4/23
« on: April 23, 2008, 09:24:11 PM »
Went down to the inlet at low tide this afternoon, was a slow pick of bluefish, and they were smaller today, 2 to 3 pounds. Southwest winds cooled the water down also. Tried the canal first looking for weakies and did nothing. Spoke to a guy at the inlet who spoke to a gillnetter that worked just outside the inlet yesterday or today, and he said he caught 100 lbs. of weakfish, don't know how true it is.
The blues today were right on the bottom, and the only way you could get them was metal, and letting it sink to the bottom, before reeling or jigging it in, we couldn't catch a bluefish on a plug. Caught half a dozen, like I said, was a slow pick.

Here's a pic of a couple of Brandt on the Manasquan River, I've seen an awful lot of Brandt around this spring.

Here's a lousy pic of a bluefish coming in, was the best I could do, trying to keep it under control with light tackle and taking a pic at the same time.

Released the fish we caught, may try to hit it again tomorrow, it's supposed to be the best day of the week weatherwise.

Looking to try IBSP tomorrow and see what happens.  I have not heard of too much happening there though.  Very spotty yet.

Glad to see you got into them. I fished it from 5 to 6:30pm, couldn't do a thing, only saw 1 blue caught, and the wind was killing me, so I got out of there. Talked to a friend of mine, and he said his girlfriend got into them 8AM this morning, and limited out in less than an hour. They seem to be moving in on either high or low tide, doesn't matter. Another friend told me that flounder fisherman upriver dropped jigs down and were catching blues also.

Another friend told me he fished the canal this moring, and the blues were up there too. He also caught a couple of short stripers. No weakfish yet though.
