TrimTab Help..
« on: April 22, 2008, 08:14:46 PM »
I am going noon on Saturday to Coty to pick up my trim tab, then might either go down Saturday evening or Sunday evening to pull the boat and work on it at the AH marina.  If anyone who know anything about this who may be in the area, let me know.. i can use the help as I am the worse when it comes to HANDY MAN..

WHy are you going to Coty? Did they give it to you for free?
Why didn't you call Bennett and have them send you the correct size metal plate?

I didn't buy the entire kit, just the one side for now to get me through the season, then for next season, I will have larger ones on.  I do have the Bennetts, 9 X 7...  Looking to go larger next time around.

I do have bennetts on there already.  I am just getting the parts needed for the fix.  Next season I will go with the larger Bennetts.

Why did you buy anything, especially from Coty when I told you that Bennett would most likely replace it for free and even send you the right size tab to fit the actuator. At the very least for a substantial discount.

If the tab fell of 2xs already, what makes you think it is going to last the season now?

To even give a dime to Coty after they repeatedly screwed you over and over is insane!

Coty is replacing the part for free, and I am doing the labor myself with help.  From what I saw, Bennett doesn't make a 9 x 7 tab, so when I asked Coty they said that it was a special order.

So in a nut shell, Coty is getting me the part for free, but will charge me for the labor, so I am not using them for the labor.  Next season i will upgrade. So either way to get me through this season, i am getting the part itself for nothing.

I GURANTEE Benett did not make a special order-worng size 9x7 tab for your boat.

Does the pump say  Bennett on it or is it unreachable?

Man that sucks.

Should be too hard to reinstall as everything should be drilled already.

I would fill in the current 3 screw for actouater and the other 3-4 for tab holes with epoxy. Redrill and use a shitload of 5200 to seal/hold the screws in place.

If Bennette don't make 9 X 7 tabs, and they don't special order them, then what the hell do I have.

What does your pump say on it?

You really think Coty marine would SPECIAL order trim tabs (that are half the size they should be) for a 26' boat?

Does the pump say Bennett on it?

BTW, those things are so small, I can not imagine there being enough force on them, (like there would be on a larger tab) to knock them off.

Is it the actuator hanging off or just the metal plate or both?

The actuator is on the boat hanging because its attached to nothing on the other end, tab is missing, bracket is still on the boat where the tab attaches to the boat.

I have to replace the actuator because where it attaches to the tab, that part is missing as well.... so...  replace actuator, tab, and take hydrolic line off old and put it on new.

Ship Shape TV did a great show on choosing and replacing trim tabs. they sell the complete vid on thier site.

Here is the first part of the show, unfortunatly it ends just as they are getting into the work just as this segment ends.
