just like to pass this along.... may help someone.... If ya have no way of getting your own Bunkers either by net or snag... Crabbys B&T in Keyport now has Fresh Bunkers in the shop and the biggest damn sandworms i have ever seen.... some going 12+ inches .... no big deal and nothing in it for me... just a heads up for those that need the bait......

thanks for the info.. those fresh bunker are expensive..  1 throw of a net is like over $100.00 worth of bunker.

ALso, if there is a Killie shortage this year in the bait shops (like last year), Crabby's will ALWAYS have them.

They don't switch suppliers for a buck here or a buck there and their loyalty pays off as they are ALWAYS among the 1st to get killies from their long time supplier from what I am told!

They had them last season when few others did.

I'm done with Killies.. if I can't catch my own, I hate paying high prices for 1" killies..  My buys the fresh mullet, and spearing to replace the killies.

this is true.  I used to do that as well at the dock when I had my house in LEH.  Now netting all those peanuts for free works just as good, if not better.  Killies are also getting very difficult to get in the bait shops.

I am getting 75 cents a lb for bunker and killies I am gonna make good money on ,I will be suplling alot of shops to the south of most of us

My pops uses them. I don't really. Peanuts only good when they around and that ain't until mid to end of summer.

I like to use smelt instead of killies or fresh spearing that I catch is good to. Killies are ok, but won't buy any this season (have a nice spot to get my own before each trip).

My fluke day starts with large Squid from the market, fresh either mullet, smelt or spearing, whatever looks fresher... net peanut bunker if/when there in the harbor and a stash of gulp mullet..

This year, my game plan is different. Strips of fresh bunker, bluefish, sea robin or dogfish or fresh caught spearing and/or killies.
Fresh Peanuts when available.

 Gulp on every rig too.

Won't even mess with squid or buying frozen bait this year unless someone brings it with them (like my pops because he always buys that sh!t).

I wouldn't shy away from the squid too much. A staple food for most fish.

squid is always my old reliable.  I don't leave home without it.  I bait a double rig.  My bottom spro with a very large squid strip with and of the above fresh bait.  My upper hook gets the gulp, also with a squid strip.  The squid, if nothing else, gives your bait a nice flutter.

Don't really need squid if using big strips of fresh fish for bait. I don't think I used squid more then once or twice last year.

Not saying it doesn't work, but my goal is not to purchase any bait this year, but catch my own fresh. Match what they are eating in the area.
