Saturday April 26th report...
« on: April 27, 2008, 07:03:37 PM »
Met up with Flukedood (Scrubby) and Lefteye (Tom) at the marina at 5:15 am.
Thunderstorms and rain were blowing through, so we waiting it out for a half hour or so.

Took off for Great Kills for some bunker. After a half hour or so of snagging, we filled the live well and were off to the Old Orchard Shoal.

The bay was giving us 2-3 ft. seas and none of us were going to attempt to set the anchor trying to get around the walk around of the Grady White. Too dangerous.

We then decided to head for calmer waters and out of the wind after talking with Catfish.
The bite was good when we got there and we immedidately had two blues on the hook.
Shortly after that, one screaming reel and a snapped line for Scrubby was heatbreaking to say the least. Looked promising.

The bite died off close to the slack and we kept at it with the bunker heads.

A phone call from another Capt. at slack tide informing us that the outgoing tide with the southeast wind was going to make it tough getting back to the marina, we heeded his advice and make our trek back. It was rough and quite an experience making our way back.  The crew was happy when we made it back to the channel at Matawan.

The fishing was OK, the company was great and for my maiden voyage ever in the boat, I got to see how she handled in the chop. I was pleased even though my stomach was in my throat by the time we got back.  :P

All in all, a great day. The beers back at the dock were nice too.  ;D

Mboy was working on his boat when we got back and I met Hunter2 (Eddie) as well.  t^

Good report Sam. It's always good to find out what a boat is capable of.  t^
