Need some info
« on: April 28, 2008, 09:35:22 AM »
Going out for the first time this year and taking two guys from work. Going out of AH, what do you think is my best bet for putting them on some fish? (Founder or Bass)
Thanks for the help.
Rick

If you want to get them action, go for the bluefish, they are all over.  If you want to target stripers, throw the cast net in the AH marina and get your bunker, then head to the reach, drive around and check your ff for markings, then drift or anchor live bunker or chunks.  Bring bluefish hooks with metal leader if the bluefish are thick, then target them.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Def try for bass in same manner as Luna Sea Suggested.

May only get a few bass, but their arms will be sore from reeling in 10lb bluefish all day :)

Secure some fresh bunker..either by netting your own or buying.

Invest in a 100 count box of hooks, some #40 leader material and head to the back of the bay and go bluefishing.

If you can wait out the blues you might get into a bass or 2.

Say what you want about the tablefare of bluefish, they are a hard fighting fish and doing it on relatively light tackle in shallow water enhances the fun. I love springtime bluefishing in the Bay.

You could also strap on some wire leaders to foil those choppers  >:D

Yesterday, we switched from flouro over to a nylon coated wire leader material (ona small spool) that you could even tie knots with to the hook that not 1 bluefish bit thru.
I forgot the name (maybe Art can get it from Lou).
Stuff was great tho and I plan on getting some.

I saw Hunter II trolling.

You will catch fish trolling, but that is by far THE most boooooring way to fish in my book and is an absolute LAST resort on my boat.

I think the leader material you are describing is "Surfalon" which I believe is sold by American Fishing Wire....Not sure if there are others, but I know Surfalon  can be tied..
