catfish's bass report
« on: May 10, 2008, 09:08:31 PM »
fished the njh bass contest and had a tuff time putting fish on the floor today ,I started out netting bunks and hit about 80 on my first throw w/ my net and a blue busted the net up .I then hit 2 more throws and was off to the grounds to fish we had non stop blues and couldnt land a bass I dont know why but I kept pulling the hook on them ,I made one move and marked fish and it was on ,we put 4 in the box and lost a big fish before calling it a day .We did around 100 blues

What style and size hooks were you using? I had trouble with that a couple years back BIG time using 6/0-7/0 true circle hooks.

Stepped up to 10/0-11/0 and problem went away for most part.
Hookup ration increased BY A LOT.

Nice job Catfish! Glad to see you made it out.

If you are using circles try offsetting them.

Good Going CH, that is the what usually happens to me during the summer when I take a number of people out even to the beach.  Many hook ups but could not get to them fast enough because always catering to some one else.

That is when I dead stick my outfits I use circle hooks so at least I have a chance of pulling in something.

thier was bunker at great kills but not big pods they were smaller schools hugging the bottom they up in the front we had to watch the fish finder you would mark them throw on them and most pulls came up empty but others would have 1-2 dozzen

It was a perfect day to be on the water.
My partner and I only put one striper in the box. 32.5" Lot's and lot's of blues though.
Also had dead batteries in the camera, so I didn't get a pic with me and the fish.

Either way it was alot of fun and great meeting up with everyone afterwards.  TT^
