That is the initial violation of possessing a fish out of season. There is an added charge for each fish you have.

So, you will have your initial fine, then a fine for each fish. Three fish in possession = four fines.

ALSO, if you have any of the fish are under the size limit, the same applies. Original violation of under limit fish plus fine for each fish under the limit.

Wow...sweet fish! No reason to keep a fish that big out of season or not. Few nice pics and some measurements. Skin mounts dont hold up and a fiberglass repo would do the trick.

I saw this pic yesterday, and it was larger and clear. Any reason for the resizing and ghosting of the logo?

Just asking.

Hey guys -

First off...thanks to Mike for posting the pic and report.  Mike is a heck of a good guy.

Second...no...it certainly was not easy to release that fish...but I know what the right thing to do is.

Lastly...no idea why that logo appears on the picture I took.  I did not authorize such a thing, and certainly did not resize the photo.  I would of thought whoever placed the logo over my photo would of ran it by Mike, since I was not yet a registered user of the site.  Whatever...no big deal.

Good luck out there this season.

I believe Rod added the watermark.

Welcome and Congrats to my friend Bill who caught and released that monster fish.

Was his maiden fishing voyage (I believe) on his new for this season boat (which is SWEET BTW).

I am guessing you caught it after 9:30am or so as you made no mention of it when you left me the voicemail that AM :)

Congrats again on the fish of a lifetime. And not even targeting it to boot.

Bill has certainly put his time into fishing and that fish is well deserved!

Congratz to you Capt Bill..  That is one nice fish!!

Welcome to the site also.

Yea. I added the mark.  seems to be linked to a lot of other locations. ( The water mark is for when others link to picture and use our bandwidth for it's viewing)

Can you at least tell us what way his head was pointing when you released him?

Capt Bill, congrats on the nice catch. That is what keeps everyone going back on the water. It does not matter who caught the fish, just knowing that there are fish like that out there keeps everyone coming back.

Also, excellent release. It takes a true sportsman and a person of high integrity to release a fish that size. I hope everyone would have release the fish, but I'm betting that is not the case.

BTW, welcome to the site.  t^

Great catch and you should feel lucky you remembered the camera that day!

IMO, releaseing it was the only smart choice...why keep it? It's not a record and even if it was you couldn't submit it. You couldn't weigh it in an get a pic in a magazine because it's illegal...you have to be nervous for the whole rest of the day...there will be pletny of opportunities to get some meat in a couple of weeks.

The fact that you threw it back doesn't change the fact that you caught a trophy of a lifetime.

Congrats on a great fish!! t^ t^

The Water Mark was placed on the picture since it was loaded onto this site.  I'm not trying to claim property of the picture.. it's there for those that take the picture off the site or link to it from another site since it's our bandwidth they use to link back to it and our Web site they are taking it from.

Moderators - Thanks for the clarification regarding the logo.  Great site by the way...

I appreciate all the positive feedback.  The picture kinda stinks...but all I had was a cellphone camera.  The boots in the picture are size 11 of my two best crew members - my Dad and Victor Dejneka.  I didn't want to pick her up by her gills, as I knew I was going to release her, and gills to a fish are like lungs to us.  She is a big old girl...still out there waiting to be caught.  In a way I am glad I was forced to release her...kinda of a shame to kill a fish that old...especially a female which could carry so many eggs for the future***.  Then again...would of been a heck of a nice entry in the Fisherman Magazine Dream Boat contest!

***My son, Billy, turns 1 year old in 9 days.  He will be the newest addition to the Joint Venture crew.  Watch out for this kid...he is gonna catch!

Last I saw her...she was headed for the back bay....

Welcome Aboard Joint Venture.

It looks like your fishing party is filling up with family members.  That is a good thing.  All I usually have to do is mention that I an going surf fishing and the Expedition fills up fast especially during the summer.

Again Welcome to the site I am looking forward to your posts and input.

Happy Catching
