Funky Munky 5/15/08 Official Report
« on: May 15, 2008, 05:24:46 PM »
Had the pleasure of taking out our very own BOB today.
He picked me up at 5 and we left the dock a few mn. after 6am.

Headed right over to GK and saw 20 other boats  searching and coming up empty for bunker.

Wound up acquiring live bunker (Thanks Steve the bunker man)at a higher then usual price, but since it was tough going for even him, perfectly understandable.

After moving around a bit in NY and fending off  MANY MANY MANY big bluefish, and a couple of missed bass opportunities (whole bunker coming back after nice runoffs with scales missing got some intel from a good friend (which was much appreciated by the way-and I will never give you up  :) we made a move.

After some more BIG blues I laid into a fish and thought it might have been a bass.
Get her up top and told Bob to get the net.

Got her in the boat and she taped out at 36" 17.15lbs.

Few mn later, Bob almost gets SPOOLED (I will let him explain) and finally gets her to the boat and yells for the net. She is a BIG ONE.

Get her in the boat and she taped out @ 43" and 35.3 lbs (verified on my lip grip scale and then his digital).

From then on, it was a few more bass runoffs and TONS AND TONS of big bluefish. All you wanted and then some.

I will let BOB tell the rest of his big bass story as there is more ;)

Dockmate also came home with a 28lber today, so the big fish are moving in :)

Thanks Bob for joining me with the fine company today and for just an all around great day on the water  TT^

Now if I had a SHIRT.

Hey, does bob qualify for a shirt with a 35lb bass?

First I have to thank Mike for providing a great day on the water giving me the opportunity to land my biggest striper ever. He has a great boat which is a very nice fishing platform and he has added a lot of things to make it "His" boat.  That is one of the special things about CC boats you always want to add something to make it fit your fishing needs.  My boat is ready but the marina is not so I jumped at the chance to get in on the spring Bass fishing.  Mike, Thanks for the invite.

Now to the two items Mike did not report on: First was the catch, I would like to say I played the bite just right and let him take it and wait just the right amount of time, then using my superior fishing knowledge and calling on all my years of experience I set the hook at just the right time when the fish had turned the whole bunker around in it's mouth!  NOT, I had just snelled a new hook on after Mr. Blue bit it off and put a live bunker on, let it out and set the clicker in free spool. I then proceeded to snell another hook on my second pole which Mr. Blue had also bitten and frayed the leader. Mike caught a blue and I returned to the snell when I glanced over at the rod...could not believe my eyes as there were about 7 coils left on the spool, I had not set the clicker!  Grabbed the rod, thumbed the spool to stop it and was greeted with a strong hard pull. Proceeded to reel in over a 1000 feet of leader, Power Pro and mono backing.  Thought it was a blue but when it came near the boat and turned on it's side I yelled, Mike Net, and neither one of us could believe the size of this fish.  I will now have to raise the bar...

Second was the object in the picture, I found it in the fishes stomach.  It is a retaining pin cast out of metal.  Who knows why the fish ate this thing?  The other interesting thing was the fact that my whole bunker with hook was also in their but it was tail first?  So much for waiting for the fish to turn it and swallow it head first.

Enough said and Thanks again Mike.
