Fluke Fishing in Margate, 6/1
« on: June 02, 2008, 06:09:32 PM »
I went out on Sunday for a half Day trip with my Mom. It was her first time fishing since I was a young boy and my Grandfather was still alive and fishing! We departed from  "Capt' Andy's Marina" in Margate, aboard the "Fish-N-Fun". We were on a four hour trip from 8 am to 12 pm. The weather was fnatastic and Capt. Alf had us dropping our lines within 15 minutes of the start of the trip. It couldn't have been more than 20 minutes before my pole was bending in half. Thank the Lord that I had it tied to the side rail or I would have lost it! As I realed it in I was fighting one powerful fish which the First Mate Dave Zaccardi swore was a skate. Lucky for me, I new better since Skate as you all know is the only thing that I have caught all year besides one small blue. My suspisions were confirmed as a shark somewhere between 3 and 4 ft came into sight along side of the boat. I was already planning on how I was gonna cook this guy as he broke my line just before we got him over the rail.  rgmn THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY! Then the skates and the flatties started biting almost as if they were taking turns! As people started getting frustrated with the skates, I started letting them know that I would be glad to help thin the skate population and claimed any of the skates big enough to eat. First Mate Dave was awesome as he agreed to wing these guys for me as I kept on . The majority of the flatties were a bit to small to keep as there were only three keepers in the four hour trip with the pool winner being Chris Wright from Collingdale PA (pictured below with his catch and his kids, while 17 were thrown back for a later date. It didn't seem to matter much though since the poles were bending around the boat all day! it was a great day out and I will definately be going again soon on this boat as the crew was fantastic, and thay let us bring BEER!  chrz

Special Thanks to Capt. Alf, First Mate Dave, and Jessica for whom the boat fleet is named. If you want to give them a shot when your in the Margate area, check out www.jessieofishing.comt^

Hi All,

This is my seciond year fishing on the Fish n Fun and I can only agree with the great write up and what a fine crew the Jessie O fleet has. I got to watch Sean fight that shark and saw it before it threw the hook so no fish story there it was a big boy and a shame it got away but it provided a lot of excitement not just for him but the others on the boat watching him fight the big boy. The skates provided alot of fun but being able to put that 20 incher in the box was definatly the high light of my day my wife said it was delicious. Again a great write up by Sean (thanks for the picture) and a great day from the crew of the Fish n Fun. Any one looking for a great time especially if you have young kids give the Fish n Fun a try it's a great experience for the whole family.

Regards,

Chris
