FishOn42 6/7 Sandy Hook Report
« on: June 07, 2008, 08:35:45 PM »
Fished the surf at sandy hook point again. Started out walking the mile on sand through the path while getting attacked by mosquitos because the sun wasnt out at 530 in the morning. Had no bug spray so I kind of jogged the whole way there. Fished from about 6 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. More sea robins then you can believe, alot of short flukes, biggest i got was 2 of them at 17 inches, my cousin also caught 1 or 2 at 17 inches. Few at 16 inches, the rest like 10-13 inches in size. Saw a total of 6 keeper fluke along the shore line that I fished. A few just making 18 inches, and the biggest I think I saw looked like about 20-21 inches. Few nice fatties this guy pulled out. Single Killie, or a chartruese, or white mullet gulp bait were the keys to catching the fluke. 9 in the morning seemed to be the best time for the fluke, tide was still out, went on a good spree of catching just fluke, then the robins came right back peckin away like usual, dam things. Real hot day out there, not much wind... I wont ever make that walk in 96 degree humid weather again. All in all, couldnt ask for better weather.. maybe just a little cooler, fishing was descent. Wish I got a few keepers, but theres always next time.  t^ t^... also it took 55 minutes to get from the parking lot to route 35/36* w/e it is because of everyone leaving the park and a cop directing traffic. Horrible.

Nice report Mark. You caught fish and the consolation is, you didn't have to lug them back to the vehicle in the 96 degree heat.   TT^

That walk to the tip sucks, but it's a great surf fishing location and worth the trouble most of the time. <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><
