This week started off with the Village Harbor fishing club lead by Bill Dapney
Along with Bill Jann, Steve Cook and just returning from a 3 year hiatus Jim
Kerstanski , we started the trip in the back bay on Bass Kandy Delights[ BKDs]
looking for some light tackle action and waiting to see what the stiffer than
forecasted NE wind was going to do. The guys had boated a nice 20" fluke and
missed a few short strikes from small blues. From there it was off to the inlet
where we were suprised to find the wind and the fish more cooperative with
large 8-12lbs blues under some bird action .At times all rods were covered in
big blues on light spinning tackle ! After the bite died off it was time to
search for the bunker schools. We finally found a large school just off the
beach of Surf City ,after filling the live well with live bunker we started
fishing only to find the fish off the bite even though we were marking fish in
the school. As we made our back towward the inlet we kept an
eye out for possible feeding fish but to no avail, once back at the inlet we ended the day with some
action with some large blues holding down deep. George Kitzler with Mom, Mary
were out the next day for a solid bite on big blues on both bait and Bass Kandy
Delights [ BKDs] , catching upwards of some 20 big blues to 15lbs ! , George and
Mary,s rods were also doubled up most of the trip with big slammer blues !
Sundays trip for the Garder Cadilac Group headed by brothers Eric and Brian
along with friend Wayne Smith were out for some more non stop action with big
blues to 15lbs on live bunker. Although we did again mark fish in and around the
large schools of bunker we were not able to connect with any striped bass but
,the blues were more than willing to cooperate at a fever pitch! The guys were
doubled and tripled up with fish most of the time! They landed 50-60 big blues
with at least the same amount of misses !
Best Regards
