Reel Class Bass-Bluefish 6/12
« on: June 12, 2008, 10:01:52 PM »
Had the Dave Zak charter aboard consisting of Dave and his buddy Reid. I wanted to get them out this afternoon and evening, but the guys were on a somewhat tight time schedule since Reid is in from Vermont so we had to fish 9AM-3PM "mid-day" shift.

Ran north, found bait and fish right away. Bunker everywhere. As soon as we were getting the bunker in the water, we were being covered up by alligator bluefish in the 10-15# range. Jumped around to every pod I could see and find, but we just found more bluefish. Put heads on the bottom, more bluefish. Fished whole dead bunker, even more bluefish.

Just wasn't our day for the bass, we burned up easily 100 pieces of bait in the 6 hours we were out, the guys had a great time battling the bluefish. All but one was released, kept 1 for the grill for their dinner tonight. Everyone I talked to - covered up in the gators, bass were hard to come by!

Good trip, just wish the bass cooperated. Heard this evening the bass turned on a bit, with bluefish still in the mix.
