Fished with my father-in-law OB in the bay on Wednesday. Pushed off after 9:00 to beautiful conditions. Clear skies, flat water with westerly 5-8's with outgoing tide. Made our way up bay to fish 40ft of water. First drop OB lands a 18.5 while I hook up at the same time with a just short figuring it would be a banner day. As it turned out, it was a slow pick but 3 of 8 where keeper. Largest 22". Called it a day around 2:30 after trying a couple of holes and shallow water. Can't beat spending time with OB. He's got more stories than the empire state building.
Yesterday, decided to switch it up. Snagged bunker with Jeff M the Spromiester, Tracy and her man Tom in AH. The bunks were tough to come by with the current and wind blowing us off the pod and a couple of capt that have no regard for others on the water. Tom did a great job at the helm keeping us stationary while Jeff and I managed 15 or so in 45 min. Headed outside to the rocks. The SW wind and swells forced a slow pace and almost got Tom chumming but he hung tough.
Anchored with 1/2 dozen others and got bounced around pretty good for about an hour. Did not see a bent pole around and no run offs. Pulled the hook and moved onto the beaches to work our way north. Each drift produced plenty of action on fluke. Water preference was 18.5 to 20 ft. Not much in shallower or deeper water with the exception of one set of drifts in 30 ft. Structure in this area is different. No preference on baits as spearing, squid, killie combos or fresh bunker strips worked equally as well. Finished the day with 25 fluke (just short) with two keepers just making the numbers. Even the Spromiester had a tough day connecting. The drifts were to fast for those 4oz Spro's with stinger hook but when the conditions are right the rig is deadly. Here's some pics of the motley crew.
