The New Jersey DEP's Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) is gearing up for the 2008 New Jersey State Fair / Sussex County Farm and Horse Show at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta from August 1 - 10. This year, DFW will have its largest and most comprehensive display ever at the fair.
Located in the Conservation Tent, the display will feature information on the fish and wildlife of New Jersey and the various research and management programs carried out by DFW. There will also be a display of taxidermy mounts of many of New Jersey's wildlife species, and a fish tank with live trout. Division staff will also be on hand to answer questions from attendees and distribute literature.
The Division's award winning Hunter Education Program will also be at the fair, and is offering an exciting opportunity to show goers this year. Prospective hunters looking to take the written portion of their hunter education course will be able to do so at the fair. From 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM each day (12:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday) hunter education instructors will be on hand to administer the test to those interested. Upon completing the written test, all someone needs to do is attend one of the regularly scheduled hunter education courses with their homework to complete the field session and live firing exercises. No registration is necessary to take the test at the fair.
Head out to the State Fair this year and enjoy a day in the country. And be sure to stop by the Conservation Tent to learn more about New Jersey's abundant wildlife and wildlife related recreational opportunities.
