Fluke fishing R.I. on the 7 B's
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:52:54 PM »
Hey Guy's and Gal's been so busy that I haven't had a chance to post.
My son and i went up to RI this Sat. for fluke.
It was a split trip so we went out on both.
the morning trip was slow,no drift but we managed 3 keepers.
Afternoon trip was better, with my son putting 4 in the boat and me with 1 for a total of 8 fluke up to 5 lbs.for both trips,my  son had the biggest fluke, but rofla was not in the pool.he also drop an estimated 7lber at the boat when he gave just a little too much slack in his line and the fish spit the hook just before the net 5hrug,on the way home all I heard was how he out fished the old man,but I did remind him of the one he lost rofla.
this pic is my son holding up the stringer from the second trip.
Hope everyone is doing well, hope to post more after things at work settle down.
Tight lines

I'll be up there in three weeks.  Have a charter one day, will fish the Block Island area for fluke, sea bass, and porgies.  Will also do a fluke trip inshore on either the 7B's or Frances Fleet for fluke.

I go there at least once a year, and historically, the keeper to shorts ratio on fluke and the other species is much better than in NJ.  Despite the escalating minimum sizes.

Fluke fishing out of Pt. Judith/Snug Harbour is of of my favorite destinations.

Were you bucktailing or dragging bait?

We were dragging bait,we worked hard for the fish we got, well at least I did lol.
Caught a lot of shorts most were 18 to 19" fish.
I'll be back up there in a couple of weeks.
I have fished NJ for fluke, but have been more successful up in RI. 5hrug
I tuna Fish on the Voyager, but don't think I'll be going this year. nosmly

Went out this Sat. on the 7 B's by my self this time.
It was a split trip and I was on both.
The morning trip we only had 13 people, most were kids with their dads, really good to see dads taking their kids fishing.
Well the kids out fished the adults 3 to 1. TT^
I managed 1 keeper about 4.5 lbs lots of throw
backs. The weather was lousy with showers on and off 5hrug,very slow drift, water was like a lake.
one of the kids limited out t^ all were standing in the pulpit holding up their biggest fish for on lookers to see, it was great to see their faces as the people on shore gave them the thumbs up. t^

On the second trip we had a lot more people and I decided to fish the back of the boat with a couple of regs. it was a good move on my part because there were so many tangles. ???
with hardly a drift I managed another keeper 5lbs on the button and more throw backs.
with the commercial season closed I was hoping for better results but dems the breaks.

Striper fishing has really opened up,saw fish on 6 packs with fish up to 40lbs, with everyone keeping 2.

I am going to switch over to stripers until the tuna show up in the canyons, from what i heard it's really slow out there.

Well I took up enough of your time, hope everyone has a good and safe holiday.

tight lines, Loneshark.

brickken, sorry about that,I should have said private charter boats, also the Party boats are doing very well, the 7 B"s had over 30 fish to 35lbs FRI. night,I was tempted to go Sat. night after fluke fishing, but it would have been tough on the old bones lol.

nice trip, it is always good to call for the net well before the fish is close to the boat, especially on a party boat, but nice fish anyway t^

Loneshark:

That's what I read into it, but if it was a fishing technique I didn't know about I figured I better double check. Thanks for the reply.
