July 29 fluking on the Irish Ayes
« on: July 29, 2008, 09:47:37 PM »
Had Matt, John S, Dave A Jr and Dave A III aboard today.

Went to our spot off of Bradley Beach, 50' of water. No wind, no drift. Caught way too many short fluke. Did two drifts (if you want to call them drifts), boated probably 50 short fluke and no keepers.

Went north to our spot off of Ocean Grove. Been doing decent there recently. Put ten keeper fluke on ice along with two seabass, both nice knotheads. Largest fluke was 23 inches. Had several 22s and 21s. Had what is probably another 50 short fluke on this spot.

Water temperature was up to 73 degrees today. When the wind started up it came from the NW at a slowwwwwwwww speed. Turned clockwise all the way to the SE at about 15 knots by the afternoon. Drift went from nothing to 'damn, we're going too fast'.

The keepers are finally on the bite. It should only get better from here.  t^

Will be back at it Saturday.

Capt Jerry, I think things are finally starting to swing our way with the weather now.

Should be a very good run till the end of the season.  t^

Good going Joe, I have not been to the water since Sunday where I found the water in the upswing from Friday.  Maybe it is a good sigh but I hope it is not to late.  They ae calling for rain tomorrow but again the weather will be out of the south with the sold front coming out of the west.  It should be an interesting Fall run.
