The JIG RIG-Stop Dragging Bait

We have been using a combination of a bucktail jig on the bottom and a fly teaser one foot or more up. This rig is producing lots of fish and have given up dragging bait.
The jig and the teaser are producing as well

Any of you have similar results

Last Friday I fished a chrome fluke ball on the botton and a top leader about 1 foot up. Basically the same set up as you discribe. All my fish were take on the top hook.

I haven't had great success with the jig, although one on my crew fishes this exclusively. He does catch a lot of skates and not as many fluke as everyone else, BUT, the fluke he catchs are rather large (usually 21"+).

How do you fish these? Do you fish mostly vertically and hop the jig up and down or so you cast out and 'jig' it back to the boat?

We've fished a rig like that a lot this year and my catch totals are higher than last year but I rarely catch a keeper on that rig.  Guys were really killing the keeper fluke down here in Sea Isle last year with that rig.

Been using that rig (or variations of) for years.

Clouser fly works great but try using a 4" GULP shrimp in new penny pattern on a 2/0 baitholder hook instead & hang on  .

I've been using it in the bay past 2 years with excellant results. Used it in the ocean for the first time last Wednesday (at first was skepitcal) but I was proven wrong--works there just as well.

I started making patters that look like the spros's green and white/white with flash.
Bogan's/Macs have all the stuff/Bogans has the great flash

i threw some head-on jumbo shrimp recently--the real stuff-- my buddy got a sweet deal on at the asian market... they got sucked up quick but not only by the flukies.

I find the 2/0 baitholder to be perfect for the 4" GULP shrimp. I thread the shrimp on the hook & bring the hook point out about 1/4 of the way down. I make sure that when I thread the GULP on the hook that I bring it up over the hook eye. Fluke will inhale this in a blink of an eye.

I also like the fact that the size/weight of the 2/0 makes the bait appear more natural.
