Phyllis Ann's First Official Trip.. ?
« on: August 24, 2008, 02:22:13 PM »
Or Not...

Left the Dock With Paul and Rod Sr at 8:am  Into a very turbulent Barnegat Inlet.  Pushed threw the slop and plowed out to the GSN in a Consistant 4' Head sea..

Boat ran great and handle well..  Was concerned about Rod Sr.. Since he only had 1.5 hours  sleep last night and said he wasn't feeling well prior to departure..  Looking back and asking Paul.  how is Dad...  5 miles out It wasn't looking good..

Arrived at the GSN and Dad ( Now saying.  I'm Fine I'm Fine)  pulls a couple quick short sea bass in.  I then instantly pull a...  yea 17.5" short Fluke.  At that point.. 5 minutes into the drift.  Dad was praying to the ocean Gods..
I didn't think a person could turn those colors..

Anyway.  against his will We decided to high tail it back to the dock.

Took him a few good hours to come to.  But he's all good^

He was very upset that he cut out trip short..  But I'm sure most of us have been there before and it ain't pleasant.. I would do the same for anyone.

He's been out many times.  No problems.  Just the lack of sleep and those sea's did him in.

Paul  We owe you one.

Dad will be back out Saturday for our fluke a thon.  t^

Congrats on the first official fishing trip Rod  t^ Sometines you christen a new boat with a keeper fish, sometimes it gets christened in other ways.  cfzd  Hopefully Rod senior will put that first keeper on the boat before the end of the season TT^

Nice report!  Sorry to hear your father was not feeling well.  Really stinks for everyone when it happens, but nothing you can do about it!  There is always another day.

Rod I was glad to be a part of your first official trip.  All that matters is that your Dad feels better.  There will be other days, other times to get those elusive keepers.

Your boat and you handled the seas today flawlessly and you gained more knowledge and respect about the inlets finicky side.

Fishing is not everything, friendship in my mind, long lingers after that fish has been caught.  Thanks again for a great day with you and your Dad.

Happy Catching Rod Sr.

Rod,

Can I assume the "Phyllis Ann" is your new larger boat that would not fit in a slip at Capt Mikes?

What are her stats?    ;D

Congrats on the maiden voyage...at least you'll remember it a few years from now  TT^

Always nice to find out how the boat will handle sooner than later. Good to know both it and the Capt responded well (according to Paul).

I am the same way (when inshore)... fishing is supposed to be fun. Getting sick is not fun. I always tell people if you are getting sick let me know before you start the offerings, we can always go back to the bay and try fishing there, which many times is much nicer.

Again congrats on the new addition...

I was only seasick on a boat once in my life...... on a rowboat on greenwood lake
on a calm summer day! Your Dad sounds like
a trooper but it's good that you got him home.
