Irish, having been involved with serveral attempts in several clubs over the years to promote interest etc I applaude your attempt and am sorry it did not work out as I would have enjoyed intermingling with the members.  It is nice that we are all basically in the same area.  Might I suggest we have a tournament, no prize as to money, but some old beat up fishing reel that dosen't work etc, just to show it for bragging rights..  No entrance fee, but with the same picture considerations you mentioned for the bass and blues... Hell even an old anchor that would indicate you won the thing.  Run it the same amount of time, or shorter, free entrance, but the winner will be decided on the entering of both species, bass and blues and you have to enter both fish to qualify...??  whatcha think bout something like that???... just my dime... salt  ;D ;D ;D

whs no entry fee and no prizes just braging rights or maybe a t-shirt. I remember last summer we had a few mini-tournaments for a week and the winner got a t-shirt.

Salt Shaker,
Some good ideas there. Maybe have the tourney over one or two week ends. Winner takes home a token prize for bragging rights.

BYOF (bring your own food) for a BBQ on the days fishing.

MOST guys have access to IBSP and/or Sandy Hook Beach. Southern guys can do IBSP and northern guys SHB. Will also make it a North vs South shoot out.

If it is confined to one or two areas (IBSP and/or SHB) we can have someone set up for measuring all entries.

Winner can be total combined length of the biggest striper and the biggest blue fish.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

Any comments on this idea?
Who would be up for something like that?

Sounds good . I think we should make it one day and all meet up at one spot. I  ran a few surf fishing contest on the other site - NJH- and only a few showed up and we had a blast . We meet at the hook and fished untill noon. We did a few more but it is hard to get everyone together . So a ond day thing will work out better t^

Rugman, your comment on 'not all could make it' is the reason we went with the month long, more people would be able to make it.

We will see if there is any interest in a one day or a one week end, two week end and go from there. Whatever we can get interest in, we can do that.  t^

i kinda feel guilty now, i didnt get my entry fee in....i work in retail, and my days off change every week, so hard to nail down when i could go. plus i have no vehicle for the beach, so weather is a factor for me. again, i apologize to everyone for not registering sooner

It is not your fault I just think and I hope we can rationalize it as my mother used to say "It wasn't meant to be".

This will happen only not at this time.

A 1 day tourny, meet at a particular spot on IBSP on a certain day and certain time.  Rules.. only fish that beach, up and down the surf for a certain amount of time.  Meet back at the main selected spot where there will be a fire, food, and good talk waiting for everyone at the end of the day.

We can do $5.00 a person the day of.  Not a tourny, but just an outing with some bragging rights at stake.  10 people show, then the winner takes home $50. bucks, or something of that sort.  I used to bowl, and its kinda like entering a small raffle instead of a tourny, or like a 50/50 drawing.  No need to make it a money thing.

At the starting spot, there will be a Mod, or Admin there to take official measurments of the fish to determine the winner.

What da ya think.

I like the ideas and maybe doing just a one day tourney and turning it into a BBQ at the end.

Instead of money especially if you are talking about bragging rights why not do trophies they are inexpensive and always look good sitting in the living room, den or TV room.

To give you an idea a trophy in the 13" high size will cost you about $10 to 15 bucks or less.

Most of the time the printing is free up to 50 letters.

As far as the BBQ make it a BYOF&D and make a grill accessible for use and a good old fire or two for the night gathering.

I bet the stories would be flying all night.

How many are in for a one day 'gathering' at IBSP? And what day would be good for you?

I would be in for pretty much any day that was selected.

Looks to me like we would have

Me
Paul
Luna Sea
Rugman
Wing
JOzwirk
BobG
HotRod
Bucktail
Gagedylan (depending on date)

SaltShaker, would you be in for this?
SurfRocket?
Who else?
Start signing up and putting in a day that would work for you. I would 'suggest' Oct 25 or 26. Still should be decent weather and would not be Holloween weekend. Also still be in Daylight Saving Time.

Just a note for Gage...the tournament was not something that didn't happen because of any one person. One or two more people entering would not have mattered.  t^ As Paul said, just wasn't meant to be at this time, for whatever reason.  t^

Ok, lets go with the 26th of October. It is a Sunday so that will not interfere with any hunters we have.  t^
