Pop's Soul Short Sunday Troll
« on: September 22, 2008, 09:51:07 AM »
Left The Dock around 1 pm and was surprised that my youngest son (16) Robert said he would go. Robert likes to catchfish but his stomach tends to lose it after about an hour or so, and yes we have tried all the pills. The kid will fish all day in the bay on the river just that the ocean motion gets him, so I knew it would be a short trip and I except it when he is with us. We ran out to Seagirt Reef and put out a 007 and a hopkins with no takers, switched up to a Crocadile on one rod and had it go off after a short time Rob pulled in a I think and hopefully you guys can help me I think it was a Bonito, 5hrug I'm not to good with the Bonito and false abies. By then Rob gave me the look that he was feeling his stomach, :P the Dramine took hold and put him to sleep. I trolled back to the inlet with no other takers called it quits around 3:30. The NOAA guys and Fish Management guys must work together the way they get their data, once again I think a lot of people were not on the water because of the NOAA report  TT^

Nice short trip Skip.  t^

Here is Capt Jerry's tip on identifying bonito and false albies.

albies have no teeth and dots usually larger size.

Bonita has stripes but not on belly + teeth= good eats

Skip jacks striped on belly.

Hard to tell if there are teeth in your fish's mouth, but by the dots, looks like you had a false albie.

Nice report Skip  t^  I'm gonna say Falsie, based on the dark spots on the belly.. I can't see the markings on top of the back that well, but Albies have irregular horizontal markings, while Bones have vertical stripes that extend towards the belly. Thanks for the report  chrz

looks like a really small albie, could also be a frigate mackerel but it looks a lot more like an albie

Nice report!  Nice to get your son out when he can take it!  There is nothing worse than be nauseous and trying to fish.  Stinks that he can't handle it, but at least he gets out for a while!!
