Sorry guys..... I just had my vacation last week and had some of the best bass fishing ever in the bay around Ocean County..... I had fish of all sizes all week long with some of the bigger one at the end of the week.

I was out last Friday night and had the bass busting water all around the kayak for well over two hours..... I dont know how many bass I pulled over the side of the kayak.....lets just say when the feed was over....so was I.

The back bay is just loaded with peanut bunker and large spearing..... Im not sure where the peanuts have been all fall....but they are thick in the back bay right now..... Sorry for not keeping up to date......fishing is that good right now...

Sorry..... to everyone for not keeping up my end with the Kayaking part of NJSWF Page.... I have not fished since my last post back in November and again Im sorry.....I could not fish the last couple months had some things going on in my life that.....just made kayaking at night very unsafe......and you all know how I feel about safety.

I sure hope I can get back in the game soon and get back on-line with some good updates and spring fishing.....

Sorry again

Dave there is no reason to be sorry.  Your reports have been an inspiration not only for me but others on the site.  I just hope everything gets back to normal in your life and your sports get back on track.  Just remember we are all loose here and well it is all good.

Happy Catching

Hi All, well my wife got tired of me flipping so for Christmas she bought me a set of outriggers for the kayak.  Very easy to install and once I give them a try and feel stable enough I am hoping to get out with the camera stuff.

Paul,

You have a very understanding wife!!  That is great; the outriggers are gonna increase your confidence and you'll be using the kayak more than before!  Take a couppla pictures if you get a chance & show-off the new goodies!

She is great...As soon as I mount the thing on the kayak I will take a number of pictures.  Right now it is to cold in the garage to do any work out there.  I wish I had a heater for out there.

They are pontoons that are used to stabilize the kayak.

Hey Dave, hope you are doing well.  Yeah I gust have to mount it in the spring and we should be good to go.  I really want to start bringing my cameras out but not the way i seem to tip... rofla hhppy slt

It is pretty cool as the pontoons are inflatable and all it takes is 7 quick puffs and it is ready to go.

Happy Catching

Well I hope we all had a good safe and healthy winter...... March is here and that means the bay is open to fishing for bass...... The snow is going to hurt some, because of the cold water run off from the small feeder creeks.

I will start to keep up with water temperatures in the back bay......I'm sure with the amount of bass that where in the bay in January found shelter in some of those deep holes and over wintered with us in Jersey.

Now is a great time to be going over your kayak and getting it ready.....before you know it the weather will break and those bass are going to be hungry...... They will be in those areas where the mud heats up fast with those warm spring days......These are the areas yo should be fishing......Stay in the water around 3-4 feet and use soft plastic or surface plugs worked slow......

Looking forward to a great 2010 fishing season with all of you.

Dave

I hear ya Dave.  I will be getting the kayak down this weekend and putting the outrigger on and getting things ready for when the water heats up a little.

I might even get out and do some wading in the back of IBSP this weekend if nothing else but to get out.  I hear that the Oyster Creek is doing well with stripers, especially at mean low tide.

See you on the water.

Well I had the chance to get out for an hour on Sunday night without the kayak....... Fished one area of the bay and had a hook up fast.

The cold ocean water that has pushed into the bay caused the bass to turn off.... we are going to have some heavy west winds which will help push the water back out of the bay...... The day time temps are going into the low 60's which will help warm the mud flats fast........

I would be ready to go this weekend..... We should be looking good from this point forward....I will keep you all up to date

Thanks Dave,

Great to see you the other day over at Grumpys.  I bought a new 360 Slammer for my 8' Tica so now I am all ready to go out back.  We just need for the water to warm up a bit and get this rain water to be gone and we should be set.

Can anyone make a suggestion on how to dress for early season kayaking. Thinking about April for stripers inside. I don't own "dry wear". Are there other options out there less expensive. Safe,Warm, dry is my goal.

Thanks, Dave!!! Perhaps this will be the year for us to catch bass!

Noworries,
You could go with a pair of waders, neoprene or breathable, and a dry-top...

BUT you gotta have the waders belted and then a second belt over the dry-top.

THIS IS NOT A WATERPROOF SUIT.  It will let small amounts of water in, in the event that you dump.

The PFD goes on as the last layer.

I still would not go out in waders simply put, water WILL get into the waders and could bring you down in a worse case scenario.  Wait till the water warms up right now I took temps in the bay and the average is somewhere around 46 to 48.

Hypothermia will set in with in a few minutes in that temp zone.
