Left Keyport at 7:15AM. Nice conditions, water temp was 64 deg, and waves were around 1 foot with a light wind. Head over to Romer Shoal to find many boats anchored up and several commercial clam dragging boats working the area. We anchored up and used sand worms and clams. We pulled in plenty of Sea Robbins and Scates. I did not see anyone catching Blues or Striper's. After hearing some reports on the VHF we moved over to the Rockaway Jetty off of Breezy Point Brooklyn. Plenty of birds were working the area and the Striper's were breaking water all over the place. They were chasing schools of baitfish that looked like large Spearing. We Started casting out diamond jigs and Creek Chub poppers. We landed 5 short Striper's between 20 and 27 inches all within a half hour then they stopped biting
. The Striper's were still blitzing on the baitfish but nobody seemed to be hooking up. Plenty of discourteous boaters were in the area zig zagging at full speed chasing the fish and getting way to close to us and others. They would drift within a few feet of each other it was pure chaos.
So we moved away from the fleet and anchored up to try the clams and worms again with no luck, just one Fluke. We head back to port around 3PM and called it a day.
