Reel Degreaser
« on: October 21, 2008, 04:19:41 PM »
I have to break down a couple of reels that are really "gunked" up with old, dirty grease!  In the past, I was sold Reel Scrubber, which was basically carburetor cleaner marked safe for reels and synthetic parts.  It worked great and cleaned the reel, but it took me an entire 10oz aerosol can and the stuff isn't cheap!

Anyone use anything else or have any economical ideas??  If not, the price of the reel scrubber is certainly cheaper than having to pay someone or buying a new reel so...  I have to break down another Daiwa Spinner and an older Penn 710Z.

Thanks in advance!

I usually use regular rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush.  Years ago I used gasoline. nosmly  A product I found quite a few years ago that worked well for me is Reel Saver.  I like the cleaner, but I didn't care too much for the grease.  Best part is that it is non-toxic. t^

I use denatured alcohol and an ultrasonic cleaner.  I have this device for years when I had my own dental lab.  Now I use it to clean reel parts.  Sure beats scrubbing with a toothbrush.
