Stripers 10/24
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:13:24 PM »
launched at Sayreville this morning around 7:30,fishing buddy John with me,Dave who also goes with me says he gave it up for the year,to cold for him,he didn't warm up yet from the evening trip the other night.called friend Ken from the ramp,he was out last night clamming back bay and got skunked,he suggested if the bay looks calm to head out around the hook and hit along the beaches.got out in the bay it looked good so headed out, seen the fleet over on Romers shoal and headed over there and seen the clam boats working, remembering Capt Dave's report about the Bass being there, anchored up where they where off in front of us,didn't want to get to close and interfere.put 4 poles out with clam on,and chummed fresh clams,we had 1/2 bushel plus the equivalent of a 1/2 bushel in shucked frozen ones.wasn't there 20 minutes and had a Striper on,had him on my light spinning outfit, put up a nice fight but I could tell it wasn't a keeper, measured 25 inches, that was it for the Stripers, started catching sea robins and then we both became experts on catching skates(not that you have to be an expert)stayed thru the tide change and then some, headed for back bay around 1:30,made a stop over by Princess Bay and drifted clams, again nothing, made a final stop and drift in the triangle area and nothing, headed in around quarter to 3.nice on the water once your where you want to be,but a little cold moving in the open boat.looks like a wash for the week end, will wait for a nice day next week.      Kez

Great effort Kez. Things have just started with the bass. It will only get better from here.  t^

Try drifting when you are fishing near the draggers.  The fish are tight to the commercial guys and are on the move.  Also, watch for the party boats out of NY.  They usually know where the bass are because they communicate with the commercial guys.
