Barnegat Fishing | Phyllis Ann
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:49:03 PM »
Finally got a chance to hop aboard with Rod on his new boat today.  Joining us was Rod's brother-in-law, Ray.

The plan was to do some bucktailing and clamming inside the bay and maybe go outside if the conditions looked better than Saturday.  After trying the inside thing for awhile and hearing of decent ocean conditions we headed out the inlet.

Drifting with clams just north of the inlet produced only a couple of doggies for us.  So Rod broke out the trolling rods and we trolled our way further north for a while.  Again, nothing.  We found many scattered pods of bunker, and managed to snag a few to liveline, but that resulted in a few half eaten menhaden but still no hookups.  We did manage to catch one decent bluefish on a Storm Shad though (go figure). 5hrug

Our lack of catching was certainly not from a lack of trying, as Rod kept moving and trying to put us on fish.  We definitely put our time in today! ;)  We even came back inside to try our luck again, but it was to no avail. :P

Anyway, it was a really beautiful day on the water today.  And it was great to get out with Rod and Ray on Rod's new boat, which BTW, is also a real beauty! t^

Good report Rod, sorry I had to miss the trip but guess what we never made the trip out to Trenton this morning.  My daughter talked my wife into not going.  I hate that when she plays one against the other.  The worse thing was my wife fell for it.

So we went to IBSP for a few hours.  It was amazing to see how long the bunker pod really was from shore.  At one point it was will over a mile long with blues actually clearing the water chasing the bait.

All we got was one skate.  That's OK any time out there was well spent.  Not much action on the beach all over.  We left the sand around 5:30 and it was real tight getting off as the water was getting real close to the dunes as A11 and A21 was not passable at all.

Boy that would of been a shame to be caught out there and be forced to fish... ::)
