Mad dog TOG bite - 11/20
« on: November 20, 2008, 08:49:02 PM »
Today was the finale for my season. And what a way to cap it.  TOG non-stop. Could not have asked for better conditions given the time of year.  Winds were out of the west single digits to 10+ never gusting much more than 15 all morning.  Skunk and I headed out right after low tide to flat seas and a smooth ride.  The usual suspects for bait in tow today.   Greenies and clam.

Fleet was set-up by the time we arrived around 8:30.  Dropped anchor same as 11/17 with Donnie aka MJ and T-bone.  Skunk was jonesing for some fish today. Think this was the first time he fished for blackies.  I thought it was a little odd when he said we didn't need the clams.  He thought we were clammin for the stripes.  ??? Oh well, he'd have to be disappointed but not for very long.  By 10:00, when T-bone called for the report we had 7 in the box (thought there was 9).  Skunk was having a field day working his favorite Rogue and Penn 965 set up for flukin but it was doing more than an adequate job on the tog.  Both baits worked equally well again.  There seems to be a pattern where they tire of one bait and almost shutdown on that offering but pick right back up on the switch.  Who knows maybe its my mind playing games.  MJ said his buddy Mike calls TOG "carrier fish".  Why is that you ask?  Because when your done fishing for them, you'll have to check yourself into carrier clinic!   rofla You've got to admit, they do screw with you.

So by 12:15 we had a few more boats circling us like chuck wagons.  Skunk landed his personal best on his other ROGUE with a Penn baitcaster set-up specifically for stripers.  A 6 lber. Not a bad fish and his grin showed it.  Nothing enormous today.  Most fish were 2-3lb but the bite was steady.  Only a handful of throw backs.  We pulled anchor with a two man limit, left them biting and headed back to the barn to empty her out for winter storage.  Can't wait till next spring.

In the meantime, I will continue to fish virtually through your posts and thanks to all you guys who moderate and contribute to NJSWF.  This is one helluva good site.  slt

Yea.  I see Capt Bob's  boat there fairly often.  I've seen him on the water about a month ago and tried to hail him.  No luck.  Next season.
