Sunday
« on: November 23, 2008, 08:58:19 PM »
My truck told me it was 21 degrees at 6am, as soon as I stepped up onto a small finger jetty within a min i could see 10-12 bass working to the front and to each of the sides of me. second cast my bomber an teaser leader snapped right off.  no light and freezing hands I had no chance at tying up another teaser and leader, struggled to tie a wildeye direct which produced 1 and 2 lost before the ignored it.  Didnt want the want the green thiner tsunami either, as it got light bass were now crashing and chasing sand eels right out of the water 20 feet in front of me.  Didnt want the teaser-less ava either, or the pencil, the needle fish kept getting tangled without a leader but they were on it, another fish and about 3 lost quick, darn trebles, rough start and then just like that the mini blitz died.   The boat was iced in and wouldnt start but we got out close to mid day running on one engine.  8 knots max speed didnt get us anywhere fast but once we got to mantalooking good amount of fish were in 45 feet of water not the tactic I wanted but good action, doubles and triples, both rods going down and few keeper bass to 15+lbs

I had a call from Kayak1 at about 8 this morning but the wife took the call and I did not speak to him but he told the her he would call back later.  Dave I tried to call but I got your voiced mail.

I headed out to Ortley only to find the tide was extremely low once again and all the holes were taken but as I stood on top of the walkway I did not see anything going on at all.  Many were on the bars and casting out way beyond where you could normally cast from the beach.  Nothing caught.

I did see one kayak out heading south towards Seaside pier.  It was red and followed it with the binoculars but did not see if he caught either.

Yes it was cold out but the wind dropped down to zip and the waves were like those you would see on a lake.  I decided to try and see if Dave was over at Shelter cove but no one was there either.

Went back to the house as today was our Thanksgiving as my daughter will be on her way down t Fla for some R&R.

Happy Catching

Paul

my toe didnt feel right until about 10 last night. ;D

I took a lot of grief reeling in the that triple.  Alledgedly too slow and laboring  :P  Had that one on the wire line, 300 ft!  18-20lbs of meat.  Ive learned this from before not to celebrate until you see what you got.  Looks like there is another nice body of fish above belmar.  There is massive schools of sand eels out in 30-50 feet of water.  I mean massive, the electronics look like to go over an underwater lump.   This is bad for the surf fishing and it just wont bring the better fish in.  But they are out there.   the storm aafter storm patterns took all the peanuts out so the best fish are off the beach.

This might be a very good time to hop on party boat out of squan inlet or belmar if you want a shot at some decent fish and dont have a boat.

I hope it is only temporary...we need those sand eels and bait back into the surf(at least for us surf guys).  Although, there seem to be enough sand eels to go around.  Definitely, one of the better falls with sand eels that I can remember.  Last time I was out, there were so many around my feet, digging into the sand and moving with the waves.  Haven't seen that since I was a teenager.
