11/29/08 Gambler Report
« on: November 29, 2008, 06:03:51 PM »
Made a left out of the inlet this morning & fished from the south end of Deal north to the outer buoy of the Shrewsbury Rocks.

First 2 drifts was almost exclusively short bass (14-26"s) with some chopper blues thrown in the mix. Jason & I each had a fish on our first drop. By the end of the second drift, Jason had boated 5 fish (3 blues & 2 bass) and I had 4 (all bass).

Moved north to the outer bouy of the Rocks where at first it was very slow-although the only keeper bass of the day was taken here. Stayed in the general vicinity with sporadic action on #4-6 bluefish. We did have some serious flurry of action lasting about 20 minutes where it was drop and reel on #3-4 bluefish, an all out blitz. Did see 2 more short bass taken at the end of the day.

At the end of the day, Jason & I had 25 bluefish in our tote to go along with the short bass (released) we caught earlier. I took all my fish on a tubeless AVA-47 while Jason took fish on that bait as well as a 5 ounce Krocodile. Did see some green & red tubed AVAs take some fish.

Nice report and good catch. Word is that there are plenty of short bass around keeping everyone busy.

The Mohawk was tog fishing in that area yesterday and we saw birds working all day. You could see they were picking up sand eels.
