Salmon River

Hello,

I am looking for Salmon River information.  I would be able to go in early May of 2009.  Would there be fish in the river at that time?  Like some of those football size browns I have heard about.  How much would it cost for a drift boat trip?  Do they do them in May?  Are the fish filleted for you?  I am not good at it.  Rods and reels to use for this time frame and for the type of fish in the river in May.  Again, early May or late April.

The Brown fishing is the best in the lake as soon as the ice is out. I don,t think the river is as good that time of year.

There may be some leftover Steelhead in early May but that's a little late.

Browns would be caught in the lake by trolling close to shore. May is prime time for that fishery.

Not sure about other ports but there's a guy in Oswego harbor (about a 20 minute drive from the SR) that will clean or fillet your catch for a fee...

Yea, I'm going Offshore Sea Bass in January and in February.  I might be able to do the Salmon River in late March or early April.  I'd be river fishing.  Not in the late.  I don't have a boat.

March and early April is usually good for Steelhead... Don't expect to see Browns in the River that time of the year.. Browns in the tribs is a fall thing, and the Salmon does not get much of a run compared to some of the western streams like Oak Orchard or 18 mile..  It is possible however to catch Browns from ice-out thru April casting spoons/sacks from the lakeshore. Good areas for this can be found around Oswego, and I've done very well at the jetty in Fairhaven state park where the outflow of the "pond" enters the lake. Cleo and Krocadile spoons are the favorites for this. Have Fun!
