Coming Your Way, January, 2010 National Fishing Registry...

No matter how you slice it, a saltwater fishing license is in the making. Call it what you want, but it will amount to nothing more than a license and money maker for the federal government.

If you have a 'registry' (license) in your state, there will be no need for a national registry.

Remember, this if for recreational fishing in federal waters.

This could be good...if the money actually went towards the study of the fisheries with ACCURATE reporting.  However, you know that the proper data will never be obtained.

My understanding is that the registry would be required for anyone fishing for certain species as well, like striped bass in all waters.

While I see a lot of negatives in this, there is one positive that may come of it.  For once they will have to see just how many recreational fisherman there are, and our numbers will counted!

I've posted this before, but the editor of the Saltwater Sportsman, Dave DiBenedetto, a NJ native who now resides in Florida, has argued for years that a saltwater license would be a benefit to NJ.  He has cited the gains made by recreational anglers in Florida since a license was enacted there.

  One problem. We live in NJ. Money tends to get lost in this state.

The money does not get lost! We know exactly where it is...and that is not where it is supposed to be. 

The federal registry will be free at the on set. After that, who knows. But, as was said before, the money will not be spent on the fishermen. It will go into the general fund.
